S Hotels & Resorts is set to launch SAii Lagoon Maldives, the new island resort that will open its doors in summer 2019 as part of CROSSROADS Maldives, the largest integrated resort by the Indian Ocean. A free-spirited tropical escape in the Emboodhoo Lagoon, just 15 minutes from Velana International Airport by boat, SAii Lagoon Maldives is an irreverent and playful escape for couples, families and friends in search of a casual and captivating destination getaway. The resort’s design is stylish, eclectic and full of art and seafaring motifs to create fascinating and comfortable spaces where guests can relax. The resort’s playful design ethos will be on show at Miss Olive Oyl, the poolside Mediterranean seafood grill and bar, and Mr Tomyam, a Thai fusion eatery with open kitchen and alfresco dining areas. Guests can also enjoy a range of water sports and wellness offerings, while discovering Maldivian cultural activities. This is all part of a personal journey that can be further tailored by creating your own bathroom amenities using natural ingredients from the resort’s Aroma Lab and custom-made kids pyjamas in rooms and creature comfort pillows. Housing the Maldives’ first Café del Mar, the world-famous beach club brand, SAii Lagoon Maldives is also planning to host memorable beach parties in the Maldives in partnership with iconic international DJs. SAii Lagoon Maldives will be closely linked to The Marina @CROSSROADS, a 30-berth marina with a wide variety of lifestyle offerings. This vibrant district will house many facilities, including the Junior Beach Club and Camp, the CROSSROADS Event Hall and Marine Discovery Centre, where marine biologists will teach guests about the resort’s conservation activities, including a Junior Coral Curator programme and clownfish release initiatives. The multi-billion dollar tourism industry, which is the country’s main economic activity, relies heavily on the domestic transport infrastructure, especially air travel. Maldives, the most dispersed country on the planet with 1,192 islands spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometres, already has 11 airports, including three international airports. The government has contracted both local and international companies to develop additional domestic airports across the archipelago in a bid to boost tourism. |
