The Maldives consists of 1,192 coral islands grouped by a double chain of 26 atolls stretching between the north and south of India, over an area of over 90,000 square kilometers being the most geographically dispersed country in the world.
The collection of atolls lies between latitudes 1 ° S and 8 ° N, and longitudes of 72 ° and 74 ° E.
