Also known as Southern Miladhunmadulu Atoll or Miladhunmadulu Dhekunuburi in the Maldives, Noonu's beautiful tropical islands , idyllic white beaches and colorful coral reefs are still untouched. Noonu Atoll hotels are also popular with divers who want to explore untouched diving sites of Maldives including Edu Faru, Christmas Tree Rock and Orimas Thila. Noonu Atoll contains 13 inhabited islands; the capital, Manadhoo, has 1400 people. Noonu atoll is 45 minutes by seaplane from Velana (Male) International Airport.
Noonu Atoll has some of the most expensive resorts in the Maldives. These ultra luxury properties are chosen by high net worth individuals who often travel in their own jets. The new Maafaru international airport is part of a joint project to develop Noonu atoll as an ultra-luxury tourism zone. The airport provides do away with the need for them to transit at the main Velana International Airport and park the jets there.
