First Impressions: Arriving at Paradise

Our journey from Male International Airport was seamless. A representative from Coco Bodu Hithi greeted us and escorted us to a comfortable 40-minute speedboat transfer . As we approached the island, the shades of blue shifted from deep navy to brilliant turquoise, and the palm-fringed shores of our home for the week came into view.

Even though the resort was at full capacity during our stay, it felt incredibly private. The island is designed so that you can take a ten-minute walk and only see a couple of other people, making it a true private oasis .

We splurged on a Coco Residence, and it was worth every penny. Villa #619 was more than 1,700 square feet of pure bliss, perched over the water on the sunset side of the island .

The residence featured a living area, a spacious bedroom, and a massive bathroom with a sunken tub. But the real showstopper was the back deck. It had an infinity plunge pool, a four-poster daybed, lounge chairs, and steps leading directly into the lagoon . Waking up each morning and opening the curtains with a remote to that view was a honeymoon highlight in itself.

Our stay was made even more special by our private butler, Gowtham, who took care of everything from dinner reservations to scheduling activities, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in relaxation .

• Snorkeling the House Reef: The marine life is astounding. We joined a guided tour with the resort’s marine biologist and saw everything from hawksbill turtles and reef sharks to a mesmerizing octopus that changed color as it swam .

• Sunset Cruise: The resort offers a romantic sunset cruise, a perfect way to witness the breathtaking Maldivian sunset with a glass of champagne .

• Coco Spa: We had a couples' massage at the overwater spa. The treatment rooms with private decks overlooking the ocean made for a profoundly tranquil experience .

• Best Time to Go: The ideal weather window is between December and April, during the dry season. We went in November and had fantastic weather .

• How Long to Stay: We recommend a minimum of 7 nights to truly unwind and adjust to "island time," especially considering the travel time involved .
