A new addition to the world of Maldives luxurious over-water resorts, The Standard, Huruvalhi stands out for its accommodation, which is specially designed for different types of travelers. Bespoke and signature dining choices, a contemporary Spa, and an overwater tapas and sunset club with a transparent dance floor combine with a myriad water sports experiences to create a truly unique, forward-thinking resort. Regardless of whether you travel a romantic duet, alone or with a family, you will find here an experience that suits your needs. With the emphasis on an activity-driven atmosphere, the resort’s tagline ‘Social by Nature’ reflects an easy-going travellers’ finesse against the backdrop of a healthy house reef and a significantly large lagoon.

Carpe Diem Beach Resort and Spa changed hands in Fall 2019, as it transforms into the first Asian property in US-based The Standard Hotels’ portfolio.

In total, the hotel has 10 different categories and 115 villas, all of which have private pools. The resort also includes 5 Over Water Pools that are tailored to suit the individual needs of the guests and offer shared double rooms. Five restaurants and bars, an inflatable Aqua Park in the lagoon, outdoor swimming pool, an array of water sports and diving, including a marine centre and training room, a gorgeous house reef and our own coral conservation nursery in the lagoon, the resort also have lots and lots more for you to do.

The Island

Carpe Diem Beach Resort, developed by local hospitality group Carpe Diem Maldives, opened in late 2018. The resort has been welcoming guests ever since. Following its groundbreaking London debut, Standard International, the parent company of The Standard, is marked its entry into Asia with the rebranding of Carpe Diem Beach Resort which opened as The Standard, Huruvalhi Maldives in Fall 2019.

Located on the edge where Baa and Raa Atolls meet, the area is rich in marine diversity; Baa Atoll, renown for the annual Manta Ray migration from May to November in Hanifaru UNESCO Marine Biosphere Reserve, is just 15 minutes away by speedboat. The home base of Raa Atoll is teeming with wildlife and a survey in June 2018 by US-based marine organisation Coral Reef CPR identified an extraordinary array of rare coral species, some of which are 500-1000 years old, attracting over 215 fish species to the house reef at The Standard, Huruvalhi. When you get off the seaplane at the floating jetty, your breath is taken away by the beauty of the lagoon. Little fishes around the floating platform will surely make you want to start snorkeling right then and there. You will be escorted to the spacious lobby with open windows and huge bean-bag like teal color comfy sofa chairs. Expect warm welcomed with fun popsicles

Raa atoll or North Maalhosmadulu is one of the northern, most visited atolls in the Maldives, separated from Baa atoll by Hani Kandu is a canal 5 km wide. With daily flights direct from Velana International Airport, Male, The Standard, Huruvalhi is closer than you think. The resort is a 40-minute seaplane ride from Male airport, or a 20-minute flight to Dharavandhoo Domestic Airport in Baa Atoll combined with a 25-minute speedboat transfer. When arriving into Male airport, after customs clearance you will be greeted by The Standard representative who will help to expedite your arrival process and assist with your luggage.

Villas and Suites

The resort offers 115 contemporary private pool villas, each with lagoon or ocean views. Some villa choices are ideal for couples; some specifically for the solo traveller and others are for families and friends, yet each offer the same relaxed, contemporary design throughout. Each of the private pool villas at The Standard, Huruvalhi has sliding doors leading on to a large deck with a shaded seating area and a sun-drenched plunge pool. Ten accommodation choices have been designed with a modern and social traveller in mind to offer a vibrant addition to this revered Indian Ocean destination. Introducing a new room category to the Maldives market, five Over Water Pool Villas are dedicated to solo travellers looking to share twin bed accommodation, omitting the need for a single supplement.

The Garden Rooms interior are simple but the neon pink strap around the bedside and the pink floaties hanging on the wall gave a pop of color. Everything is simply white from the snorkeling gear on the wall to the cool ukulele at the side table. The spacious bathroom has a disco ball hanging from the ceiling.

First of its kind in the Maldives, GUDUGUDA is the authentic Maldivian Restaurant. Featuring a traditional celebratory Maldivian cuisine cooked by Maldivian “aunties” – the women who carry on the tradition of this remarkable cuisine, GUDUGUDA is the Dhivehi (the local Maldivian language) verb for relaxing and conversing while smoking a special shisha water pipe. This is an activity traditionally enjoyed by women in the Maldives, but the restaurant invites all the guests to relax and socialize in our adjoining lounge before or after their meal. The GUDUGUDA's menus are driven by locally caught, seafood-driven dishes, flavorful coconut milk curries with carefully selected complimentary fresh spices and herbs, fresh regional fruits and vegetables, delicate and aromatic rice dishes and perfectly cooked breads.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner at KULA, our all-day dining restaurant by the pool, is a bountiful and casual affair in our breezy and shaded dining room. Kula means “colors” in Dhivehi (the local Maldivian language) and a colorful menu is exactly what they feature – you can enjoy authentic Western, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisine, cooked by our diverse culinary team that hales from around the globe. They cook what they love – and we know you will too.

Head to JOOS CAFÉ for your daily smoothie, coffee or pastry ritual. Flanking the stunning pool, this is the perfect shady, breezy place to hang out. Grab a book from the resort's library, or tune out the world to crank out a few last-minute emails before your go truly offline to relax. Joos Cafe serves savory and sweet breakfasts, and perfectly light but satisfying lunches with fresh salads, wraps and sandwiches. Served tableside, around the plush lounge chairs and tables, or even by the pool.

For a casual late afternoon picnic or dinner, you can swing by BBQ SHAK, where fresh seafood and meats are grilled to perfection over coconut shell charcoal, and offered with a variety of house-made sauces, specially paired with each dish. This is a feet-in-the-sand spot – no pretense, great vibe, reggae music, and lots of great flavors. The friendly staff takes your order tableside, and from where you sit you can see the chefs grilling your selections made to order!

For an indulgent and playful time, TODIS BAR is the right spot for you. Located just off the pool deck, the bar serves luxurious and satisfying bar favorites that that are universally loved - fresh oysters, fried chicken sandwiches, and dry aged beef burgers and fries to name a few. Order at the bar or throughout the breezy, fun space. For the kid in us all – head to one of the many table games – 3D ping pong and board games abound. And for the adults in the room - make sure to order TODIS namesake cocktail, which is served in a half coconut shell and made from “toddy”, a local specialty liquor made by fermenting fresh coconut water!

BERU BAR is an adults-only over-water-club, which is perched just feet above the ocean, featuring fantastic views, comfortable loungers and.....a glass floor bottomed floor! A sunset ritual is led by a Boduberu dummer (a local Maldivian percussionist), thanking the sun for its daily energy and to usher in the moon hours. Local DJs spins irresistible Maldivian inspired-beats, drawing everyone to the dance floor to move with the waves and sea creatures illuminated below. Expect a craft cocktails feature luxurious fresh tropical juices and a bar snacks include crave-able treats like tamarin-coconut prawns and banana blossom fish and chips.

  • The bio-diversity on the house reef is astounding. If you have an ocean water villa, you can easily snorkel the length of the house reef and out to the drop-off and the fish are just amazing.
