Why We Love COMO Cocoa Island
Maldives Inspiration guide
January, 2023
A special place in the Maldives COMO Cocoa Island is an intimate, romantic escape with 33 overwater villas above a turquoise lagoon. The newly renovated resort is home to an impressive house reef wrapped in chalk-white beaches and clear waters, only a 40-minute speedboat transfer from Velana International Airport.
What makes it so special? The spirit of ease at its heart, Maldivian warm welcome hospitality, inviting homegrown flavors, one-of-a-kind, an exceptional COMO Shambhala wellness retreat, engaging experiences and the most helpful friendly staff you could ever wish for draws people from all over to this private island near Male.
Here's a look at what you'll see, taste and do once you got to Cocoa island.
Pristine beaches
With unobstructed Indian ocean views, broad, uncrowded stretches of fine sand and slow paced life, Cocoa Island’s beaches are the answer to any serenity seeker’s dream. Sunset walk on one of the longest sandbank in Maldives connected to a resort is something the guests love. Turquoise lagoon with beautiful beach and house reef is right ion your doorstep.
The Way of Water: Underwater adventures
If you're specifically looking looking for great, easily accessible snorkelling for your Maldives weekend, Cocoa Island is the right pick. The house reef (accessible from the villa) is teemed with abundant marine life including rays, sharks, turtles, octopus and an extraordinary array of fish species. The resort's team also take guests on night snorkels to see nocturnal sea creatures and bioluminescent corals.
The diving is the best You've ever experienced all over the world. The coral reefs is spectacular and each dive is truly epic. COMO Cocoa Island is surrounded of pristine dive sites, such as the dramatic Kandooma Caves and the ever-popular shark cleaning station at Cocoa Thila. The resident marine biologist can also accompany you on dives to explain about the flora and fauna you'll see at the dive sites. The diving team is exceptionally professional and we would recommend the resort to anyone learning to dive or who has not dived in a while.
Relaxing Retreat and Mindful Sojourn
More than any other Maldives island, COMO Cocoa takes health and wellness up to an even higher level. The tranquil COMO Shambhala Retreat in the Maldives is a deeply restorative destination. The resort offes holistic wellness concept including yoga, massage, hydrotherapy, and sauna. Pilates studio and gym are also very well equipped all brand new equipment.
The restaurant have a special 'wellness' menu for every meal, featuring super healthy - and absolutely delicious - options. The avocado toast. the Acai bowl, the quinoa tofu kimchi bowl is great! And this is just breakfast!
Food to write home about
One more example for COMO Cocoa’s luxury relates to a food. Cocoa island has just one restaurant, Ufaa, but culinary offerings will suffice for a stay of any length without getting bored. Whether you want to eat European, Asian or from the Shambala menu, from the slightly daily changing dinner menu, the all day dining card or participate at one of the three themed nights (Indian, Indonesian and newly Thai), all food will be available with good quality with attentive service at the same restaurant, so are the vegetarian options and complimentary, delightful coffee. Zip on a drink before you go to dinner? Faru bar is just steps away and well stocked. The craft cocktails are incredible, as well.
Sustainability
In the Maldives, COMO Cocoa Island has been implementing sustainability initiatives, and is committed to celebrating local culture, supporting the domestic economy, and minimising the impact on the environment to create memorable and sustainable travel experiences for every guest.
The guests especially like how the resort consideres the impact to the environment through minimal use of plastic (only glass bottles and paper straws) as well as the coral sponsorship programmes. The Island has a sustainability team, who pioneer initiatives from reef health-checks to monthly island clean-ups. In partnership with Reefscapers, guests at the resort can sponsor a coral propagating frame and help the resident marine biologist plant it on the seabed at COMO Cocoa Island’s coral garden. Also, Cocoa Island supports two schools in the Maldives on neighbouring islands through facility and equipment upgrades.
Staying with nature
With a high level of privacy Como Cocoa definitely offers a 5 star accomodation - a luxury rooms in a down to earth design - high quality but with understatement. No bling bling and the aesthetic is luxurious and elegant but not opulent to distract you from enjoying the beautiful natural Maldives surroundings. Looks like gently curved local dhoni fishing boat the villa's layout is extremely functional and the outdoor shower is a great bonus.
The resort has recently undergone a complete renovation and the accommodation is simply breathtaking with floor to ceiling views of the Indian Ocean. Pictures will give you some idea, but they don’t do it proper justice, you have to see villa in person to truly appreciate it.
COMO Cocoa Island offers special promotions and packages, with competitive Maldives resort deals combining a stay at the resort including spa, scuba diving and a host of romantic experiences.
