The Maldives has experienced a notable uptick in tourism in the first three weeks of the year, with 128,548 tourists visiting the island nation. This figure represents an 11.6% increase over the same period last year, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism. Last year, during the same period, the country welcomed 115,187 tourists.
The growth in tourist numbers can be attributed to the diverse range of countries from which visitors are arriving. Russia leads the pack with 14,495 tourists, followed closely by Italy with 13,965. The United Kingdom, China, and India also contribute significantly to the influx, with 10,689, 10,113, and 9,744 tourists, respectively. Other countries making up the top ten sources of tourism for the Maldives include Germany, the United States, France, Poland, and Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, an average of 6,121 tourists visit the Maldives daily. These visitors typically spend around eight days in the country, enjoying the unique beauty and hospitality of the Maldives.
The Maldives boasts a robust infrastructure to support this growing number of tourists. Currently, the country is home to 176 resorts, 809 guesthouses, 140 safari operations, and 15 hotels. This diverse range of accommodation options caters to various preferences and budgets, making the Maldives an attractive destination for a wide spectrum of travellers.
