W Maldives Welcomes Neuroscientist Anne-Sophie Fluri for The Restore Ritual
A science-led approach to mental well-being arrives in the Maldives this September.
13 August, 2026
W Maldives, the luxury private-island resort situated on Fesdu Island in the North Ari Atoll, has announced an extraordinary addition to its wellness programming. From September 14 to 20, 2026, the resort will host neuroscientist, meditation coach, and Brainwave founder Anne-Sophie Fluri for The Restore Ritual—a week-long wellness residency that blends neuroscience, mindfulness, and immersive island experiences.
What Is The Restore Ritual?
The Restore Ritual is the latest installment of The Wavemaker Edit, W Maldives’ signature ongoing series of curated collaborations with global innovators across culinary arts, mixology, music, art, design, sustainability, and wellness. This particular chapter brings a science-led approach to mental well-being, offering guests a fresh perspective on how mental fitness can be cultivated with the same intention and discipline as physical wellness.
Throughout the residency, Fluri will personally lead every session, using the island’s natural surroundings as a setting for exploration and reflection. The program includes:
-
Sunrise meditation overlooking the Indian Ocean
-
Conscious breathwork and visualization exercises
-
Invigorating ice bath challenges
-
Restorative rituals held across selected locations on the island
Sessions will unfold in some of the resort’s most breathtaking settings, including Coral Terrace—surrounded by the resort’s award-winning house reef—and the secluded shores of Gaathafushi Private Island. Each location is carefully chosen to bring nature into the experience, creating moments where the natural world and neuroscience come together in harmony.
Who Is Anne-Sophie Fluri?
Anne-Sophie Fluri is far more than a traditional wellness instructor. She is a published neuroscientist, mental performance expert, workshop facilitator, and the founder of Brainwave—a global platform delivering science-backed talks, workshops, coaching, and events led by scientists and academics. She also founded the REWIRE program, which focuses on improving focus, resilience, and performance.
Fluri’s academic credentials are impressive. She holds a Master of Research in Experimental Neuroscience from Imperial College London, where she contributed to pioneering research in psychedelic science and migraine treatment. She later earned a scholarship to develop algorithms addressing motion sickness in virtual reality. Her career has since spanned neuroscience research, technology, and wellness—serving as Head of Mindfulness at a mental fitness platform and Chief Science Officer at a sleep technology company.
Fluri is also a trilingual speaker of English, French, and German, and hosts the podcast “On Science with Anne-Sophie Fluri,” where she unpacks complex neuroscience topics for a broader audience. Her work has been featured in The Times and The Daily Telegraph.
The Philosophy Behind The Restore Ritual
For Fluri, well-being begins with understanding the mind. Her work is built on the belief that resilience, focus, and emotional well-being are skills that can be strengthened through science-backed practices and daily rituals. Rather than treating wellness as an occasional escape, she encourages people to develop sustainable habits that support a calmer, more present way of living—combining neuroscience with mindfulness to make mental fitness both practical and accessible.
This philosophy aligns perfectly with W Maldives’ broader vision for The Wavemaker Edit. As Amila Handunwala, General Manager of W Maldives, explained:
“The Wavemaker Edit was created to bring inspiring voices and fresh perspective to W Maldives. Anne-Sophie represents a new generation of wellness innovators who combine scientific knowledge with genuine human connection. The Restore Ritual offers our guests an opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and discover that wellbeing extends far beyond the spa. It is about creating experiences that stay with you long after you leave the island.”
Why This Matters for Wellness Travel
The Restore Ritual represents a growing trend in luxury hospitality: the integration of evidence-based neuroscience into wellness programming. Traditional spa treatments and yoga classes are being complemented—and in some cases elevated—by science-driven approaches to mental fitness. By bringing a neuroscientist of Fluri’s caliber to a remote island setting, W Maldives is positioning itself at the forefront of this movement.
The resort itself provides an ideal backdrop for such transformative work. Following a bold transformation in 2025, W Maldives has earned the title of Best House Reef in the Maldives for three consecutive years, offering direct access to exceptional snorkeling just steps from the beach and overwater villas. The property features 77 overwater and beachfront villas, five design-led dining venues, and the redesigned AWAY Spa with overwater treatment pavilions.
