Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi has announced that the resort remains open to welcome guest once they are ready to travel and gives full salary to its employees despite the situation.
The statement by the resort read, “After careful consideration and discussion with the resorts’ ownership and with Hilton Brand, the resort will remain operational to welcome guest once they are ready to travel. The resort is aiming to work on a few projects and will remain available to welcome back guests as soon as the directive from the Republic of Maldives government changes and the borders, open up again.”
Located at Ithaafushi island, Waldorf Astoria is part of the Hilton portfolio. The villa resort spans over three islands and is 30 minutes away from Velana International Airport via the resort’s private yacht. The resort features 122 villas, each compromising of a pool and a view of the Indian Ocean. The highlights of the resort include the two-bedroom overwater villa and three-bedroom beach villa for those seeking exclusivity and the 11 dining venues and bars including Terra, an elevated treetop restaurant, and The Ledge by Dave Pynt.

The Maldives government has taken a number of precautionary measures against the rapidly escalating state of the global COVID-19 pandemic including the suspension of on arrival visa for tourists. With this decision, the tourism industry has come to a halt.
