Empowering Women in Wellness: A Conversation with Sirima, Spa Manager at Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru & Dhawa Ihuru

This year, we sit down with Sirima, Spa Manager at Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, to discuss her journey, the empowerment of women in the wellness industry, and how she embodies the ethos of “Empowering People” of Banyan Group.

Q: Sirima, can you tell us about your journey in the spa and wellness industry?

Sirima: My journey began over 15 years ago when I trained in traditional Thai healing techniques. What started as a deep curiosity about holistic wellness soon became a lifelong passion. Over the years, I worked my way up, learning not just the art of therapy but also the leadership and operational skills required to manage a spa. Joining Banyan Tree was a turning point—it allowed me to grow in an environment that values personal and professional development.

Q: Banyan Group is committed to empowering people. How has this philosophy influenced your career?

Sirima: At Banyan Tree, empowerment isn’t just a concept—it’s a practice. As a woman in leadership, I’ve experienced firsthand how the company invests in our growth. Through training programs, mentorship, and leadership opportunities, I have been encouraged to enhance my skills and take on challenges. I’ve also been given the platform to mentor younger therapists, helping them build confidence and expertise in their craft.

Q: How do you see the role of women evolving in the spa and wellness industry?

Sirima: Women have always played a central role in wellness, often as caretakers and healers. However, we are now seeing more women stepping into leadership positions, driving innovation, and influencing the direction of the industry. The shift is empowering, as it brings fresh perspectives and a more holistic approach to wellness. It’s important that we continue to support and uplift one another, ensuring equal opportunities for career progression.

Q: What advice would you give to young women aspiring to work in the wellness industry?

Sirima: Believe in your abilities, embrace continuous learning, and seek mentorship. The spa and wellness industry is about nurturing others, but it’s also about personal growth. Confidence comes with experience, so take every opportunity to refine your skills and step outside your comfort zone.

Q: What does Women’s Day mean to you?

Sirima: It’s a reminder to celebrate our strengths, resilience, and achievements. It’s also a moment to acknowledge the progress we’ve made while continuing to push for greater equality. At Banyan Tree, we are not just creating a sanctuary for our guests—we are building an environment where women feel valued, empowered, and inspired to grow.
