Appreciating the sustainability effort of Playa London, Reethi Faru Resort is glad to collaborate with the brand that shares similar visions and goals toward corporate environmental responsibility. ‘Reethi Shirt’ is not just about naming a garment after Reethi Faru Resort. In the Maldivian language, Dhivehi, the word ‘Reethi’ means ‘beautiful’. Sustainability Initiatives

A Good news from Environment and Marine Centre. This month, our Marine Biologist has been very busy designing and installing a new floating coral nursery on the house reef, with help from the Dive Centre and Boat Crew. This unique design should provide the coral fragments with the ideal conditions to grow quickly and healthily into large colonies. We have already observed an increase in species diversity in this location, and we look forward to seeing the ecosystem improve over time. Divers can explore this new nursery for themselves if they join a house reef dive with Sea Explorer Dive Centre. You can see thousands of glassfish, a nursery of batfish, stonefish, moray eels and a lot of other amazing marine life that has started to live there. Our coral restoration project is proving to be very successful, and we encourage guests to join in with coral planting.

On 26th May we rescued a baby orphaned flying fox bat called Meatloaf. His mother fell from a tree and sadly passed away from her injuries. Meatloaf is now under the full-time care of the Environment and Marine Centre and has learned how to bottle feed. His diet consists of milk and water at this age, with added glucose and calcium. We estimate him to be around 1-2 weeks old, but he is extremely small and malnourished for his age. He is feeding well and bonding with his human carer. We hope to see him start gaining weight soon and look forward to rehabilitating him to eventually reintroduce him back into the wild.

With the assistance of many likeminded guests, we have planted 28 palm trees on the island since March and raised over $800 for our conservation projects. This is helping to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. We are proud to improve our local environment by creating valuable new habitats for terrestrial wildlife, such as bats, lizards, insects and birds.
