Celebrating 10 years os Sea Turtle science and conservation at COCO Collection!
This year Coco Collection celebrates 10 years of Sea Turtle Science and Conservation 2013-2023!
Marine and sea turtle conservation has always been a priority at Coco Collection, and in 2013 this was taken a step further. We launched the Turtle ID project, the first of a series of scientific initiatives that we believed could make the biggest and long-lasting positive impact in our corner of the world.
Sea turtle population structure, distribution, habitat use, and migration patterns can all be better understood with the aid of photo identification (ID). This in turn helps to develop appropriate conservation strategies for these endangered species. All we need is pictures showing each side of the turtle’s face, which displays their unique pattern of scales.
Thanks to the efforts of our marine team and the encouragement of our guests and colleagues, Coco Collection sea turtle ID programs have successfully continued for ten years. And to mark this 10-year milestone, we are happy to share the pictures of our very first sea turtle individuals identified at our resorts!
Meet Tina, the first turtle recorded in our Coco Bodu Hithi database. This hawksbill turtle was sighted on February 19th, 2013, at Manta Point.
Meet Bombo, the first turtle recorded in our Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu database. This hawksbill was sighted on April 6th, 2013, at Muthaafushi Thila.
Do you have any Turtle ID shots? To find out who you went swimming with, share them with us on our new dedicated Instagram account, @cococaresmv
MEET: THE HEART OF COCO PALM DHUNI KOLHU
For the next Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu’s 25th Anniversary series, meet the insightful Ashok Kumar Nair from India – our Assistant Powerhouse Engineer. Ashok has been part of the Coco Family for the past 18 years and is one of our most valuable associates who through guidance and mentorship has gone on to support the development of the resort.
As the heart of Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu, Ashok is responsible for the islands operation, safety, maintenance, and efficiency of the island’s Powerhouse and Water Plants. He plays a huge role maintaining the rhythm and warmth of the island. Also he indulges his free time in meaningful creative tasks and has helped his colleagues build something even bigger over the pandemic.
TRANQUIL TIMES WITH DHAYU
We are delighted to present our Spa Attendant, Dhayu Putu Nikasari, in this next episode of the 25th Anniversary series.
Dhayu shares a positive and calm attitude, and is responsible for providing guests with an exceptional experience while they unwind and relax. She plays a critical role in the efficient operations and the tranquil ambiance of Coco Spa as she encourages to discover and practice mind and body zen.

Coco Collection
Coco Collection runs two islands — Coco Bodu Hithi and Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu that make up the Coco Collection brand.
Luxurious and contemporary, with superb private pool villas and an idyllic overwater spa - Coco Bodu Hithi, the flagship property in Coco Collection’s portfolio, is a chic retreat where you reconnect with yourself, your loved ones and the wonder of the natural world. Translating island life into contemporary sophistication, the resort, which is accessible by a 40-minute speedboat ride from the main Velana International Airport, offers 100 villas that are surrounded by the calm view of the lagoon and the soothing sound of the waves. There are seven chic restaurants, two open air cocktail bars, extensive thatched overwater Coco Spa and a fitness center (with ocean views!). An uncrowded infinity swimming pool and a large selection of activities, including scuba diving and snorkeling in the lagoon. Despite all these facilities, guests - especially at night - tend to seek privacy in a private getaway, possibly with a bottle from Wine Loft.
Read MoreCoco Palm Dhuni Kolhu is a quiet place in the Maldives where you will find luxury, beauty and privacy at reasonable prices. The resort very well takes care of its environment and creates guests all for a 5-star beach experience in tropical paradise. Dhuni Kolhu is ahead of other hotels in its category by quality, design and amenities. This is a top class, but a simple, laid-back package of key Maldives elements - diving, snorkeling, beach, island and accommodation. Half a mile from tip to tip, a private island of medium size is populated with 98 villas. Snorkeling and scuba diving is awesome amd the guests can freely walk between two restaurants, SPA and sports grounds, using shady paths entwining the lush jungle. The removal of the island takes 30 minutes by seaplane from Male airport. Snorkeling and scuba diving is awesome and the resort offers a number of fun tours, but there is no pool on the island.
