In a landmark move for sustainable tourism, Sun Siyam Resorts has unveiled one of the largest solar energy initiatives within the Maldives’ hospitality sector. Announced at an exclusive event at Sun Siyam Olhuveli on December 6, 2025, this major project marks a pivotal step in the group’s long-term renewable energy roadmap, beginning with installations at Siyam World Maldives and Sun Siyam Olhuveli.

The event, attended by Maldives government officials, trade partners, and sustainability leaders, highlighted Sun Siyam’s commitment to environmental stewardship and energy independence—core pillars of its Sun Siyam Care sustainability framework.

A Major Leap Toward a Greener Future in the Maldives

This ambitious solar initiative is designed to significantly reduce the resorts' carbon footprint while supporting the Maldives’ national target of 33% renewable energy by 2028 and its Net Zero 2030 ambition. The first phase delivers impressive results:

• Total Installed Solar Capacity: 4,110 kWp

• Annual Clean Energy Generation: 6,024,881.99 kWh

• Annual Diesel Savings: USD 1,292,289.12

• Annual CO₂ Reduction: Over 4,458 tons

• Resort Energy Offset: 17% at Siyam World & 12% at Sun Siyam Olhuveli

These figures represent a transformative shift from diesel-dependent systems to clean, renewable power, setting a new benchmark for resorts in the region.

Hybrid Solar Systems: Innovation at Scale for Island Resilience

Implemented by technology partner Hayleys Fentons Ltd of Sri Lanka, the project features advanced hybrid solar systems with integrated battery storage. This ensures stable, efficient energy distribution even during peak demand or low sunlight.

Key technological features include:

• 1,720 kWh battery storage at Siyam World Maldives

• 537.5 kWh battery storage at Sun Siyam Olhuveli

• Real-time monitoring dashboards for precise energy management

• Comprehensive workforce training programs for resort engineering teams

This scalable model not only reduces fossil fuel dependency but also enhances energy resilience, providing a blueprint for future rollouts across Sun Siyam’s portfolio.

With completion scheduled for December 2025, this initiative is just the beginning. Sun Siyam Resorts has outlined a clear renewable energy roadmap aiming for:

• 50% renewable energy usage across the group by 2030
