WHALE SHARK DISCOVERY

Get up close and personal with the biggest fish in the ocean during the Whale Shark Discovery, the latest excursion adventure offered by Aqua Sports & Fun. This exciting jaunt takes approximately two hours by one-way speedboat to South Ari atoll, a hotspot renowned for its year-round sightings of whale sharks.

Accompanied by the Eco Centre team, our resident Marine Biologist will guide you on how to respectfully observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat. The new excursion runs once a week every Sunday from 8:00hrs to 16:00hrs. Furthermore, Eco Centre also hosts a weekly Marine Biology Presentation about whale sharks.

PRIZED COCKTAILS

It was our guest’s turn behind the bar showing their talent in concocting winsome drinks during the Annual Cocktail Competition at Sky Bar.

Out of eight contenders, two sisters from Germany emerged as winners and clinched the chance to be featured in our bar menus. Claiming the top spot is Joela Tessendorf with Pretty Pink, a Vodka-based cocktail with a zesty flourish of Sprite and lime. Coming in second is Cream Dream, by Tabea Tessendorf, a punchy mix of espresso, white rum, and Tia Maria mellowed with fresh cream for a fluffy finish. An absolute must-try on your next visit to Kuramathi!

MEET THE ISLANDERS

If plants could talk, there’s one man on the island who can speak their language fluently and that’s Sanjeewa Liyanawaduge, our resident Horticulturist. Growing up on his family’s agricultural farm in Sri Lanka, it was no surprise for him to go on a green thumb direction. “I like to grow plants scientifically, so that’s why I decided to become a horticulturist,” he says. Sanjeewa tends the Hydroponic Garden and makes sure the island surroundings stay verdant.

Sanjeewa imparts that there is no shortcut nor secret to making plants thrive only patience and attentiveness. When asked about his favourite plant, he gamely answers “Succulents!”
