Where was 'Love in the Maldives' filmed? Cast & Locations
Maldives resorts & Travel Guide

Love in the Maldives is unlike any Hallmark movie that you’ve seen before. Okay, yes — it still has a career-driven female lead who finds herself out of her element and charmed by a local man with lots of heart. But instead of setting this evergreen love story in a whimsical Colorado town (a.k.a. Vancouver), Love in the Maldives is set in the island paradise that is the Maldives.
What better way to kick off spring than by fast-forwarding to the summer vacation of your dreams? If you want to go on your own island adventure Love in the Maldives style, we’ve got you covered.
The Hallmark Channel’s newest movie, “Love in the Maldives,” premiered on Saturday April 1, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. The movie stars Jocelyn Hudon and Jake Manley. Here’s everything you need to know about Love in the Maldives‘ filming locations.
Where was Love in the Maldives filmed?
Unlike many Hallmark movies that are filmed in Canada, “Love in The Maldives” was really filmed in multiple beautiful locations in the Maldives, according to IMDb. As far as I can tell, Hallmark actually traveled to some of the most luxurious spots in the Maldives to make this movie. One of the locations was the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort.
Another interesting location mentioned by IMDb is the Vaavu Shipwreck. According to the Visit Maldives website, the shipwreck is believe to be an Indonesian ship that capsized and washed ashore. This shipwreck is home to a variety of corals as well as schools of fish, including clownfish, and sea anemone. Skilled freedivers can swim inside the captain’s cabin of the sunken ship for some pretty fascinating Instagram photos, the website notes.
The Maldives consists of 1,192 islands, the biggest island being roughly 3 square miles. The entirety of the Maldives is roughly the same size as Philadelphia. The Maldives are situated in the Indian Ocean, southwest of India. The population as of 2022 measured 580,000, which — to keep the comparison going — is roughly a third of the population of Philadelphia.
What resort does Rae stay at in Love in the Maldives?
In Love in the Maldives, travel writer Rae gets set up at a super swanky villa at a 5-star resort. In the movie, it’s named The Marata. In reality, The Marata is actually named The Muraka.
The Muraka is part of Hilton’s Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort — and the interior that you see in the movie is the Muraka’s actual interior, including that gorgeous underwater bedroom. It sleeps 6 and includes two decks, an infinity pool, and a gym. It will also cost you and your party roughly $15,000 a night to get the full Rae experience. And as for those gorgeous aerial shots of the entire island complex, that too is the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort.
Where is the underwater restaurant seen in Love in the Maldives?
That restaurant is the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, and it is also located at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort. I tell ya, Hallmark used every square inch of this resort — to great effect. And let this be my promise to you, Hilton’s Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort and/or Hallmark: if you need someone to do any on-the-island reporting on how Love in the Maldives was made, I will gladly sacrifice a week of my time to do so.
